"i forgot when i was born" - scott
haven't written in a while, so i thought i'd write something down... not really sure what to say. its been a fun, if not crazy last couple of months. michigan is going back to the rose bowl, but this time I won't be able to make it. the thoughts of getting stuck in the airport for 12 hours scare me. thanksgiving break was eh. dinner was a disaster. I was terrible at beer pong. perhaps the best part of the break was scott forgetting when he was born and saying his birthday was in 1988. those 6 dollar Guinness really do the trick I guess. anyhow, this semester has been a very long one, perhaps not my favorite, other then the first one as going on probation for my scholarship is enough to make it a tough and not really enjoyable semester. But only 3 more weeks. only 3 more exams and 2 more papers and then done. I've also got to finish up activation for the new scholars. This semester has gone by so fast and they've all, for the most part, have done great. They've really taken to the house and I feel that most of them now feel apart of the evans scholar family, which was my goal from the beginning. so this area at least has been a real bright spot. But as tough as it may have been, I do love being in Ann Arbor with the many great friends I have there and back home. Several of them kept me going when things weren't so great and I feel very lucky to these people around. Anyhow, its off to bed as it is back to Ann Arbor tomorrow | | Monday, September 27th, 2004 | | 12:33 am |
what happened?
what a strange weekend it turned out to be. from passing out when carrie was outside banging on the door to "rum and Pirates" minus the rum to keri doing a face plant on the neighbor's fence, it was a strange weekend. at least michigan beat iowa for the first time in what seams like forever. anyhow, another lousy journal post, but its bed time. sorry | | Wednesday, September 22nd, 2004 | | 12:42 am |
is it true love if after puking a girl gives you her phone number?
I hope so. I already have two dates to barn dance, just need a third. Been a while since I updated so I thought I would. School has began and so far I am behind in every class. Not really in the school mode yet but that all changes tomorrow morning...maybe. The beer pong table, which has been painted rather nicely by keri and carrie, has been getting a lot of use in recent days. Hopefully this trend will continue in the weeks ahead. This journal posting blows. Sorry | | Sunday, September 5th, 2004 | | 6:30 pm |
Summer 2005 Top 10
As promised, here are my top 10 times of this past summer: 10. Work Week - it was great getting to know the freshmen as they made our crappy house less crappy. This week would've ranked higher if whirly ball hadn't been washed out 9. Building a beer pong table - as Greg and I promised Carrie all summer, we made our first pong table. Took some lumber, nails and lot of craftsmanship, but we got it done. 8. the return of michigan football - nothing like it 7. july 4th weekend - lots of pong with carrie, alana and greg 6. living in ann arbor - though I enjoy home, I really liked living in AA this summer. Nice to be on my own. 5. Summer Outing - nothing beats staying in a hotel room with 30 of your best friends with a bath tub full of beer 4. sauer's return to GP - its so awesome that a group of friends who don't get to see each other all the time can jump right back into things, like we never split up from each other...just a shame that not everyone from the ol' group has kept those friendships 3. the Tiger's return to respectability - the tigers are on their way back to the top of baseball and it has been so much fun to watch them every night at comerica park 2. beer pong thursdays - though we often only had 3 players, pong thursdays with sarah and dennis were always the highlight of my week. 1. Kidsport - If it hadn't been for pong and kidsport, my summer would've been pretty lousy. It is a relief to know that I am going into the right profession all and all, the summer was good, but not as good as I had hoped. didn't make enough money, got dumped from across the ocean cause it didn't feel right. I guess such decisions can be made when two people aren't even on the same continent. my only hope is that my final year in the evans scholar house is at least as good as the last three years have been to me. as much as I wanted it to, this summer didn't exactly set that up. not that I didn't have a lot of fun this summer, cause I did. there were a lot of good times and its nice to know that I have some great friends that I can count on to look after me when I need it. | | Sunday, August 22nd, 2004 | | 10:26 pm |
kosher camping and ranger bob
so sarah, dennis, tony, alla, anand(?), sarah and myself all ventured to south haven for some good ol' camping. There was lots of pong, lots of beer, lots of laughs, lots of country and lots of ranger bob yelling at us. some of the other highlights are: ...being drunk twice in 1 day...very doable ...15 games of beer pong ...sarah, dennis, tony and myself: 1 night, 80 some beers ..."wait, what does kosher mean again?" ...country and confidence - all you need for pong ...making alla take on for the team and snuggle with me to keep from freezing to death ...sleeping in the most poorly set up tent ever - its amazing it didn't fall over ...country music and its ability to disturb the peace at 6 in the afternoon ...dreaming about paying 1.88 for gas...some dreams are too good to be true ...5 beers and alla hits the ground ...mud fight in lake michigan ...preston sleeping naked in the worst smelling tent ever...wait, thats not a highlight ...jennie NOT falling into the fire pit ...burning marshmallows ...anand screaming as he died in his dream and waking the entire camp up ...ranger bob and his ability to wreck a good time ...killians, miller light, bud light, blue light, natty light and corona in the stomach all at one time all and all it was a great weekend and I can't wait to do it again next year. This weekend definitely cracks the Top 10 events of the summer, which I will be posting shortly. This was a great end to a pretty good summer. Hope to see you all in Ann Arbor starting this Wednesday. Only only 7 more days until Work Week begins. So pumped to get back with everyone! and ranger bob is a jackass. | | Tuesday, August 10th, 2004 | | 6:36 pm |
its been a while
I haven't updated in a while, mostly due to a lack of internet up at school. Sauer is back in town and its been more of the usual, bad movies and lots of laughs. We went to Ann Arbor last night to drop off John's cell phone and we visited the Vu with Kristin and some of her friends. It was a good time and we met a girl there who is a U of M student. I invited her to play pong with us at the scholar house. Now that I am single again, gotta keep all my options open, know what I mean? Well, that is all I have. | | Tuesday, June 22nd, 2004 | | 12:55 pm |

life as a janitor
So I'm sitting here, on one of my many breaks as a janitor, and I am bored out of my mind. Once the bathrooms and offices, which have to be done by 8 am, are cleaned, I don't have much else to do but sit around and play games on the computer. This is a very easy, but mind numbing job. Thankfully, this is my last week on the morning shift as I start work as a camp counselor next week. I am really looking forward to that. It's going to be another crazy 10 or 12 days of work. I work Monday - Thursday as a janitor (32 hours), then Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Comerica Park (roughly 25 hours), then all of next week as a camp counselor (23 hours) and then back to Comerica Park on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of next week as well (another 20 hours or so). So in 11 days I will work about 100 hours. At least I'll be making some money. But after this long period, there is the 4 day holiday weekend and things are in motion to have some sort of party in Ann Arbor. I'm thinking pong and lots of it. Speaking of pong, last thursday night I played out of my mind, going 4-2. Sarah Bur and I form a rather good team of and we will be looking to repeat our success this upcoming Thursday as BP2 will be going down. Anyhow, back to "work" or, as I like to call it, Super Collapse II | | Tuesday, June 8th, 2004 | | 3:40 pm |

canada and other fun things
Friday night, I made my triumphant return to the land of Canada. Myself, Pete, Stefanie, Carrie, Greg and several others rented a hotel room for the night and had a pretty good time. Stefanie and I drove through a huge storm but we made it okay. The sky turned green right before we left. Once at the hotel we waited for Carrie, Greg and co. to show up. To pass the time, Pete and I played categories with Detroit Tigers. We did this for several hours until the rest of our group finally showed up. We must have named nearly every Tiger. From here we made our way to the bar. Somehow I got separated from Pete, Stefanie and Mandy as their cab went to a different bar. I didn't see them for the rest of the night, which was sucky. I still had a pretty good time with the people I was with, until I decide that I was tired and left early. The next day I went to Stef's graduation dinner and was treated to some great food and a lot of water. I also have a job working as a janitor for U of M. It is easy work but 4 am is very early. Also, the people I work with remind me of a Dave Griffus family reunion. This highlights for this upcoming weekend include baseball at Comerica Park and party at Carrie's! Gonna be great! | | Thursday, May 6th, 2004 | | 11:29 pm |
summer makes me sad
Since the internet in my room has yet to work, I haven't had a chance to update my journal. I already posted my top 10 favorite events of the year, but there were so many more that I can't think of or remember. This year was by far my favorite year thus far. I met some real cool people and made some great friends. Below are some of them and how we met. Kathryn and I meet under, well, unusual circumstances and pretty much from that time on we've been together. She makes me laugh and treats me very good. Probably the only negative so far is that we don't get a whole lot of time with each other and will probably see each other even less over the summer. Other then that, I am pretty happy with Kathryn, even if she isn't a huge baseball fan. I first met Carrie at a party at the scholar house and later at the first of many power hours. One of the coolest people I know, Carrie is always down for whatever and always makes her way to the scholar house when it is time for pong. She is a lot of fun and can out party most people. Though I have known Carrie only a short time, I consider her one of my best friends. She is also one of the few people, and the only girl, to call me nasty on a regular basis. Carrie is also leader of the evans groupies. The groupies are the girls who makes the scholar house their second home. Melissa was Carrie's roommate this past year and she partook in many a power hour with us. Melissa is much better at power hour then beer pong, but she tries hard and always makes drinking a fun event. Anyhow, its really warm on the third floor so that's all I have for now. | | Wednesday, April 21st, 2004 | | 10:50 am |
instead of finishing my huge project...
...I've decided to update my journal. Every year I say this, but the year just seems to fly by now. To recap some of the great moments of this past year, here is my annual top 10. 1. Yet another year filled with laughs, good times and great memories, and some that I can't recall, with great friends in the Evans House. It has been an amazing 3 years 2. Meeting and dating Kathryn and becoming friends with Carrie and the rest of the Evans Groupies 3. Being elected New Scholar Educator, running a very successful New Scholar Weekend and given a chance to work with the incoming class. 4. Beating OSU at the Big House and the Rose Bowl: Perhaps the greatest sporting event I have ever witnessed, the U-M/OSU game will go down as a classic. Even though USC defeated us in Pasadena, it was a lot of fun and thrill to be with Nick, Eric and John over break. Getting stuck in Chicago, however, was one of the worst experiences of my life. 5. Power Hour I to XI...this is where I met Kathryn, played spin the bottle and created the Evans Groupies 6. Halloween party, where I infamously proclaimed that "boobs are god" 7. Water ballooning sigma kappa: nothing is better then launching water balloons at rich, stuck up girls wearing their best outfits. From the roof of our house, we can hit them almost all the way up their walk way. Stupid bitches. 8. Taking a dance class and getting credit for it. I am an expert in ballroom and square dancing. 9. Beating Both Michigan State and the Alumni in hockey 10. The Tigers signing Pudge Rodriguez Good luck on finals everyone! | | Monday, April 5th, 2004 | | 10:54 pm |
1 hour and 11 minutes until my 21st birthday
and I can't believe it. So old. Soon I'll have to grow up. A scary thought and one I care not to entertain. This is a pretty exciting week for me. I turn 21, hockey playoffs start tomorrow and Opening Day at Comerica on Thursday. Pretty exciting. So 21st dinner at Charlie's tomorrow at 8 pm. Going to be a lot of fun with a lot of friends. Glad I am turin 21 after a lot of my friends. Get to celebrate with more of them. Anyhow, looking forward to tomorrow. | | 6:22 pm |
TIGERS WIN!!!
On the strength of Jason Johnson's pitching and home runs by Pudge, Carlos Pena and Rondell White the Tigers beat the best pitcher in the American League 7-0 today. If they win 1 more time in the next 17 games, they will be better then last year through their first 18 games. While they might not be a contender, the Tigers are on their way. Nowhere to go but up!!! | | Sunday, March 28th, 2004 | | 9:17 pm |
all the new scholars are still alive
and for that I am thrilled. The weekend was a blast. We whirly balled it up on Friday night and added in some caddie o's, musical chairs and everyone's favorite, Piano Man. Saturday we OCBed it, stole things from campus, bowled and ate delicious ribs at Damon's. Today was parent's day and we had a delicious meal to go along with it. I think the weekend went very well as they all seemed to have a great time, whether they drank or not. I'm glad they all had a good time just being themselves and I think they began to grasp the idea that as an Evans Scholar they are part of a very large family. Thanks to the house, I think they understand what I've been saying since I first talked to them. All the new scholars are very cool. I had a great time with them this weekend and look forward to working with them in the fall. | | Friday, March 26th, 2004 | | 1:08 pm |
6.5 hours to New Scholar Weekend
About 2 months ago I was elected New Scholar Educator. During elections, someone asked me the question what did I think my impact on 11 New Scholar would be. I think my answer went something along the lines of "To welcome them into our family and show that we are indeed a family. And also to help them to understand what it means to be an Evans Scholar". This is the usual rhetoric one says when running for this position. About 6 weeks ago I received the names and phone numbers of my new scholars. As I looked over the list I wondered what they were like. Then they were just names. As I began to call them and put a voice with a name, I began to realize that I had indeed fulfilled one my goals since I've entered this house. To be NSE and to work with 11 people of different backgrounds and personalities was something I had wanted since Day 1. Once I had contacted all the new scholars, I made an e-mail group and asked them to e-mail each other telling about themselves. I figured that the more the new about each other, even if it was just a little, the better. I was also informed that WGA thought that this was a great idea. About 3 weeks ago I received most of the New Scholars letters and pictures that I asked them to send to the house. Now I was able to put a face with a name. Tonight at 5 pm, I will be able to meet all of these scholars. I'm a little nervous for obvious reasons, like alcohol, but I am nervous for other things, like being able to show these young men and women the meaning of being an Evans Scholars. We have a saying around here that goes something like this "From the outside looking in, you can't understand it. From the inside looking out, you can't explain it". I think this is true. Outside of the Evans program, one cannot grasp what it is like. It is my job to help show the new scholars what exactly being on the inside is like. I feel I am well prepared for this weekend and for next year. I have a pretty good weekend planned even if there are some who are idiots. If all the kids make it through the weekend, I'll be so happy! Wish me luck! | | Thursday, March 25th, 2004 | | 1:23 pm |
i'm tired
the subject says it all. it's been a long couple of weeks and the weekend is about to be the busiest part of the semester. that is right, new scholar weekend starts tomorrow at 5. a weekend full of whirly ball, stealing sorority banners and getting crazy. anyhow, power hour next friday. gonna be great!!! | | Sunday, March 7th, 2004 | | 2:33 pm |
what a great weekend part 2
One thing I forgot to mention about Friday, was something that was a first for me, playing spin the bottle. It was actually a first for Kathryn and Carrie as well. I know that I enjoyed it and I can assume that everyone else did too. I'm real good at spinning the bottle, real good. The originals should do it again, soon, real soon. What a wacky weekend. One thing I hated about this weekend were people who constantly bitched about a stupid video game event for clash of the classes. Non stop complaining by the sophomores. So dumb. By the way, sophomore is greek means Smart Moron | | 11:25 am |
what a weekend
This weekend was simply amazing. Friday and Saturday nights marked the 3rd annual Clash of the Classes. Each class in the house enters participants into many different events. Tim and I were Euchre Champions, Pete won beer chug and Chris won Mario Kart. Other than this, the junior class struggled but we put up a good fight. After class of the classes, several of us performed yet another power hour and it has quickly become our tradition. Other than myself, Kathryn, Carrie, Keri and Keri's friend Matt all took part in the event. For the first time, all participants were successful and a great time was had by all. There was also much singing and dance and craziness going on. Later that night, I returned to my room to find it packed and some girl wearing almost nothing and rubbing herself outside of my door. It was really strange. Anyhow, back to studying | | Tuesday, February 24th, 2004 | | 11:34 pm |
ooops...forgot a couple of things
One highlight of spring break so far is Pete and I's trip up to Central. Got to see Heidi and even some guys from U of M. It was a good time, expect that a girl Heidi knew passed away. Can't seem to get away from things like that. Also, the full Tiger squad reported to Lakeland today. Only 42 more days till Opening Day. GO TIGERS!!! |
